New polling of a hot Republican primary in Washington’s third Congressional district shows Green Beret and Army veteran leading a liberal Republican who voted to impeach President Donald Trump in January.
The poll of the Trafalgar Group, surveyed last week, shows Kent leading both incumbent Jaime Herrara Buetler and the district’s Democrat candidate, Brett Hennrich. A strong majority of likely Republican primary voters prefer a candidate other than Herrara Buetler, making it highly likely a Republican other than the incumbent will receive nomination to represent the voters of the district in rural Washington. The primary election will occur in August 2022.
Herrara Buetler has become a target of criticism among Washington Republicans after she voted to impeach President Donald Trump, in what amounted to as a betrayal of Trump as he was leaving office. The five-term incumbent could become the latest of impeachment-voting Republicans to leave office in a backlash from their own constituencies.
Kent has staked out his candidacy on President Trump’s ‘America First’ policy agenda, supporting a moratorium on all immigration, protectionist economic policies, buffed election integrity measures, a ban on critical race theory in government and education, and placing American interests first in foreign policy considerations.
