Google DeepMind has introduced two groundbreaking AI systems, Gemini Robotics and Gemini Robotics-ER, aimed at bringing artificial intelligence into the physical world by enabling robots to perform tasks autonomously in real time. These models operate on Google’s Gemini 2.0 platform and are designed to allow robots to interpret instructions, react to environmental changes, and manipulate physical objects with precision.

The company has announced a strategic partnership with Texas-based robotics firm Apptronik to develop the next generation of humanoid robots powered by Gemini 2.0. Apptronik, which has collaborated with Nvidia and NASA, recently secured $350 million in funding, part of which came from Google, to support the project’s development.

In demonstration videos released by Google, Apptronik robots equipped with Gemini Robotics models can be seen executing a variety of tasks — plugging devices into power outlets, assembling lunchboxes, handling objects like plastic vegetables, and zipping bags — all in response to voice commands. Though Google has not specified a release date for commercial applications, these demonstrations highlight the models’ ability to perform real-world actions with dexterity and responsiveness.
